What is TENCEL™ Lyocell?
TENCEL™ Lyocell are botanic-based fibers of natural origin. It's made from wood-pulp using wood from sustainably managed forests. TENCEL™ fibers are designed to last, but should they be disposed of, they are fully compostable and biodegradable.
As a result of its significantly lower environmental impact, TENCEL™ branded Lyocell fibers have been certified by the internationally recognized EU Ecolabel.
How is TENCEL™ Lyocell made?
In a simple and incredibly resource-efficient process, wood pulp transformed first into fiber, then into yarn and finally fabric for creating clothes.
The "closed loop" approach used ensures that 99% of the chemicals and solvents used in the process are recovered and recycled.
Why are TENCEL™ fibers important?
On a global scale, the manufacture of textiles - including those used in the fashion industry - has a huge impact on the environment. Around 20% of all industrial water pollution comes from the dyeing of textiles. In countries such as China, the amount of water produced in these processes totals up to 2.5 billion tonnes.
By using materials such as TENCEL™ branded fibers, we ensure that the fabrics we use - and the production processed used to make them - contribute significantly less to these issues.
